Dr Ayyappan Thangavel is an internationally experienced Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon with over 38 years of medical and surgical experience. He has held senior clinical positions at respected hospitals across India, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia, including Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare.
Throughout his extensive career, he has managed a wide spectrum of advanced aesthetic and complex reconstructive cases. His practice is founded on careful assessment, precise surgical planning, ethical decision-making and personalised care, with the aim of achieving safe, natural-looking and lasting outcomes.

Gujarat’s First DNB
Became the first candidate from Gujarat to receive the DNB in Plastic Surgery, qualifying in the first attempt in 1995.
Reconstructive Innovation
Developed and published two new surgical flaps for hand and heel reconstruction, respectively.
Wound-healing Research
Developed a technique using autologous bone marrow for wound healing. Findings were published in the Indian Journal of Burns and presented at the Asia-Pacific burns conference in Shanghai in 2005.
Academic Leadership
Appointed Chairman of the Academic Committee for the national annual burns conference held in Ahmedabad.
Professional Service
Elected Executive Council Member of the National Association of Burns Surgeons of India, 2003–2006.
